Ben Curtiss is a middle school Arizona educator of who utilizes alternative curricula and pedagogy. His learning experience extends the work of his students to create a sustainable campus by designing and building a fire-resistant shed to house a colony of black soldier flies, which will consume non-compostable food waste from student lunches to feed their resident chickens. This learning experience draws on Xplorlabs resources related to fire safety to provide students with the necessary knowledge to design a safe and durable structure.
