Context

Luisa Levine is a middle and high school science teacher in Philadelphia, PA. In her learning experience students explore the trade-offs of lithium-ion batteries along the supply chain using Xplorlabs: The Science of Extraction to E-Waste and The Science of Thermal Runaway — this includes identifying risks and causes of thermal runaway. Once students were engaged in the problem, they pitched ideas for lithium-ion battery challenges that they wanted to solve, and engaged in a design thinking to process to make these ideas a reality.
